No kaizen did love her. He simply didn’t want to force Astelle in that Marriage.

He change his mind to love her later. Even if he treat her extremely well right now, it won’t erase the past deed he wrong her. If he did love her from the very beginning, we should have seen him giving his hand in assisting her survival after he divorced with her. I don’t remember seeing Kaizen lift a finger to help Astelle after her father threw her away. It was thanks to her mothernal grandfather that she and her child didn’t starve and die on street. Apart from that we should remember that all this messes (assassination and kidnapping of her child) are all happen because Kaizen’s knights found Astelle and her child and brought them out from hidding. They won’t become the target if they still live quietly in countryside.

He loved her from the very beginning. He indeed let her go after she was thrown away from her father, but just because he didn’t know she loved him. Kaizen did not know that she was pregnant with Theor. He thought she was living happily. Kaizen needed her testimony and agreed to let her go but Astelle’s father and Lady Florin sent the assasins

I still don’t get why you say Kaizen love Astelle from the very beginning. We still don’t even have the flash back of Kaizen’s memory about he think kindly of Astelle. I got the impression from his behavior of the past in Astelle’s memory that Kaizen biasly group Astelle to be the same as Duke, her father, and divorce her purely to reduce Duke’s political power and trample on his honor. Also Kaizen wouldn’t be stupid enough to not aware of what will become of Astelle’s honor and reputation in noble society reguarding she got divorce as soon as the first night over after marriage. So far i don’t see any proof of Kaizen’s love for Astelle in the past at all. Unless you knew spoil of story, that would explain things you said.
