Since ancient times they only give inheritance and leadership to male, so yeah it’s part of the culture babe. They have kept the tradition till today in the form of favoring male children. Now let’s connect it to population problem. There are more male genders in that country and some of their females doesn’t want to be in a relationship or have kids because they don’t want their kids (if they gave. Birth to girl/s) to experience what they are experiencing (the male favoritism). They may not do the favoritism, but their mothers/arents and in-laws might do it. It’s one of the reason in their survey in china.
Also, there are many male unemployed (because there are more male gender right), and women there won’t choose to be in a relationship with an unemployed, too poor man right.
Plus the effect of the past one-child policy before is still affecting the current generation.
