I agree with you and disagree with the OP. Alphonso being ‘held back’ is part of the duty and responsibility he has to shoulder. By showing how he is worried about him betraying his people if he doesn’t fulfill his duty, the author(s) shows us that he is a kind person. He is not manful enough but he’s still a teenager, he will learn, especially if he’s close with FL who has a strong character (after regressing). Alphonso is like a kind person who will have caharacter development to become stronger, while Cesare is a person who has both wicked and good potential and the future of him is still misterious (will there be an incident that make him become a better person or not)
