whats even more confusing is that she opens the window even when he is sick and has a fever, won’t that just make it worse?

Yes and no. the phrase ‘feed a fever starve a cold’ exists for a reason. The body raises its temperature to create an inhospitable environment for whatever bacteria are causing the infection he almost certainly has from his wound. Even when they didn’t know what bacteria was, many cultures had an understanding of this from observation.
Her decision to open the window wasn’t necessarily bad – fresh air is important and fevers CAN raise to dangerous levels – but a) she cannot tell if his fever is at a dangerous level that outweighs flooding an ill person’s immune system with winter air and b) if she’s doing so it would be better to remove his shirt or pile/folder over the blankets around him than allow what are probably sweat-soaked clothes to drain his body heat through the moisture. But it looks like she closes the window once the sickroom gets some fresh air.
So, she’s doing her best and it’s fantasy rules I guess lol.
