I’m not exactly remember if Jonathan have already met the crown Prince, but he met with Helga and seems to already figure Helga’s plan and her real identity. I think the reason Jonathan dare to talk back to Duke is because all this Duke’s actions have been anticipated. Jonathan’s role is simply stop Sion from being forced into contact with any nobles while maintain Sion as a good bait to keep nobles’re eyes at Sion.

Yes the crown prince. It was shown that he was tasked originally to go support her by his orders. But it was only a short bit of one chapter, so even I had to dig “deep” to remember it.
